Ho-Chunk Nation · athletes

Sharice Davids (born May 22, 1980) is a citizen of the Ho-Chunk Nation and made history as one of the first two Native American women elected to the United States Congress in 2018. Before politics, Davids was a mixed martial arts fighter who competed professionally while earning her law degree from Cornell University. She trained at an elite MMA gym in the Kansas City area and competed in multiple professional bouts. Davids also served as a White House Fellow under President Obama. As a representative from Kansas's 3rd district, she focused on healthcare, veterans' issues, and Indigenous rights. An openly LGBTQ+ Native woman, Davids broke multiple barriers simultaneously and has inspired a new generation of Indigenous leaders in politics and beyond.
