Ashton Locklear (born January 13, 1998) is a Lumbee Tribe member from North Carolina and a former elite artistic gymnast. She became the first Native American woman to qualify for the U.S. Olympic gymnastics team when she was named to the 2016 Rio Olympic team as an alternate. Locklear was a dominant force on uneven bars, winning gold at the 2014 Pan American Championships, the 2015 City of Jesolo Trophy, and multiple U.S. Classic and national championship medals. She was the 2016 U.S. national silver medalist on uneven bars. Locklear represented the Lumbee people proudly throughout her career, inspiring Indigenous youth to pursue gymnastics and dream big. She retired from competitive gymnastics in 2019.
